Saturday Self-Challenge – theme 21.03.2020: "architecture" But well, it's also a HFF! ;-) The Centre Loewenberg is a training centre of the Swiss Federal Railways near Murten in the Swiss canton of Fribourg. It is located on the estate of Schloss Löwenberg, a historic country estate. It was opened in 1983 and offers various railway-specific training facilities as well as premises and infrastructure for training and conferences. Built under the supervision of Fritz Haller (the inventor of the USM furnishing system), it is one of the main works of the Solothurn architectur school. Inside "Mirage Gstaad" by Doug Aitken. "Mirage Gstaad" is a site-specific outdoor sculpture by the Los Angeles-based artist Doug Aitken and can be seen in Gstaad until spring 2021. In the tradition of land-art as a reflection of the dreams and aspirations projected onto the American West, Mirage Gstaad presents a continually changing encounter in which subject and object, inside and outside are in constant flux. With every available surface clad in mirror, it both absorbs and reflects the landscape around in such ways that the exterior will seemingly disappear just as the interior draws the viewer into a never-ending kaleidoscope of light and reflection. As Mirage Gstaad pulls the landscape in and reflects it back out, this classic one-story suburban house becomes a framing device, a perceptual echo-chamber endlessly bouncing between the dream of nature as pure uninhabited state and the pursuit of its conquest. Situated against the backdrop of Videmanette in Gstaad, Mirage Gstaad will bring the idea of the "Manifest Destiny" and the American West into contact with the European landscape and the tradition of the sublime. Oak Alley Plantation, Louisiana Um 1700 baute sich hier ein französischer Siedler eine Hütte und pflanzte 28 Eichen in zwei Reihen an. 1839 baute Jacques Telesphore Roma das heutige Landhaus für seine Braut. Auch wenn damals Sklaven für das Wohlbefinden der Bewohnen sorgten, war das Leben doch recht unbequem. Heute steht die eindrucksvolle Plantage unter Denkmalschutz und wird von einer gemeinnützigen Stiftung verwaltet. Die gesamte Anlage samt Gärten, Zuckerrohrfeldern und Wald umfasst rund 400 Hektar. Die Strecke zwischen New Orleans und Baton Rouge entlang dem Mississippi wurde übrigens German Coast genannt. Dies ist auch ein Teil des Cajun Country, wo die Cajuns, eine frankophone Bevölkerungsgruppe wohnt. Sie sind Nachfahren der im 18. Happy Fence Friday ! Bern – Botschaft von Kurdistan. Eine kleine, hübsche, symmetrische Villa mit mässiger Bezäunung. Die Kurdische Regionalregierung (KRG), die ein autonomes Gebiet in Nordirak verwaltet, hat seit 2006 ein Büro in der Schweiz. Sie hat ihre Lokalität in einem Haus aus den 1920-er Jahren, das dem KRG-Repräsentanten Fauzi Kaddur gehört. Es ist auch der Sitz der Vereinigung für Dialoge Schweiz/Kurdistan.
