"Reader in an armchair" (Jaroslav Róna)
Happy Bench Monday !
"reader in an armchair" (Jaroslav Róna)
The author said of his statue: “This chair is a soft and soothing rampart that protects us from the pragmatic world around us and allows us to escape into the worlds of imagination and fantasy. It`s a dreamy chair, and the reader is an intentionally anonymous and symbolic figure, easily interchangeable with any reader. At the same time, however, the chair adds monumentality to the statue and reinforces the significance and importance of this so fragile theme. And last but not least, it`s a need to pay tribute to the world of the paper book at a time when it is threatened (and so are we!) by the aggressive world of information technology and neutered ebooks.”
