Noccalula Falls (very dry)

Noccalula Falls (very dry)
On Black Creek, Gadsden, Alabama, this is 90 foot falls named after a supposed Indian legend about an Indian Princess, Noccalula, who threw herself into the gorge because she was being forced to marry a chief instead of the one she really loved. In the summer the creek becomes very dry and the falls trickle down to nothing, but when full they are quite impressive.

It sure would have been, but it is actually like this quite often. Going under it when it is like this, is much safer, though. I have been in the gorge when the water had been quite high. Decided not to go behind that time. Didn't think it would have been safe because the rocks leading up to the falls and behind were very wet and slippery.

Wonder if you are aware that once when the water was very high, some extreme kayakers went over the falls. One was wearing a helmet camera. There is a YouTube video. IF I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have believed it was possible.
