On the first floor of the station building one can see the machine gun ports of the coastal defence pill box. The building is up at footbridge level, so the gunners on the other side had a view across Seaford Bay to the approaches to Newhaven Harbour. This side just looks across the valley leading up to Bishopstone village.

Beyond the embankment is the estuary of the Sussex Ouse and the beach at Seaford Bay. Its about 200m to the shoreline from the track.

As you leave Brighton station the Hove line forks left, the London line heads due north and the line to Lewes, Seaford, Eastbourne, Hastings and Ashford swings east over this viaduct. This was taken from an out-bound train.
