Red White & Blue - Newhaven - 22.8.2015
These are used to bring scrap metal down to the docks in Newhaven, to be exported for recycling.

Aaah, recycled UK steel... A few years back I disassembled a worn out millet broom made in China to reuse the broomstick. The metal used to hold/contain the upper ends of the straws to the broomstick was a UK beer can flattened and cut to shape. The original label faced the straws with paint applied to the former inside to match that of the broomstick.

You sort of expect that it all gets melted down, but I suppose that sort of low-tech recycling has its place, if the product works and is safe.

We used the broom for years. The handle is now the main part of a reaching hooky thingy.
