The Oxford Canal near the centre of Oxford
This bucolic scene is just a few minutes walk from Oxford Station (you can just make out a sign-post on the left).

The country creeps into Oxford from many angles and that is one reason why house prices are ridiculously high there. The 'green belt' is so tight that there is little land left to build new ones.

My late mother's house was just on the other side of the Botley Road. At the end of her road were recreation grounds and then woods and fields.

To the west are the rather un-tranquil railway sidings and un-bucolic university flats, and this stretch of canal will soon be urbanised with two new bridges and a load of redevelopment.
