My brave soldier Flicka after his ACL operation - All shall be well

"Determination " for the Poetography Group
"All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well."

The above has been my mantra for 46 of my 61 years.....

We are now 9 days into Flicka's recovery and doing well. He is in my workroom here with me... 2 foam beds rolled out on the floor... no crating. We have done well.... I won't leave him for the first 6 weeks.
The wrap is off.. the stitches are out (hmmmm werent supposed to out till Monday... but you know how that goes !) and we are gently and slowly starting the rehab.
And I have washed the yellow antiseptic off his skin ! Now we need the fur to grow back !
EXPLORED !

Pam J club has replied to Christiane ♥.•*¨`*•✿He chased a squirrel on 16th Feb,,,, and his Anterior Cruciate Ligament snapped. The operation was in 21st March to repair that.. This pic was that day of the op.
Yes.. the wrap is off.. the stitches are out.. he is now slowly slowly building up the muscle again. He is doing really well. This now today is day 10. He is taking weight on his jeg and has been since day 1.. but it is a long and slow rehab. We are doing really well
Hugsssssssssssssssssssssss
Christiane ♥.•*¨`*•✿ has replied to Pam J clubWhy a so long time between the accident and the operation ? How was he during all this time? Guess that he could walk ... but not well ...?
Have a nice week end, my dear friend.
Pam J club has replied to Christiane ♥.•*¨`*•✿The first 3 days I wanted to be sure he had not just stained the leg. He was limping... and I gave him pain killers and alot of rest. I knew it was NOT broken . Things eased a bit but I then took him to the Vet.... and the Vet recommended a course of different anti-inflamatory meds and more rest while we saw if things continued to get better.
After 2 courses of those meds.. although he was then walking alot better...the Vet took Flicka in and manipulated the joint under anaethesia . The swelling had gone down and it was then obvious the tendon was gone... not something you could tell well before then.
The best course was then the operation. I have been with my Vet for 10 years... and he is a WONDERFUL vet and I think we did the right things. . In that 3 weeks we kept Flicka comfortable and alot of rest... walks only to do what was needed and on a leash. There was every chance for healing...... but it wasnt to be .
This will be about 12 week rehab... and I have a solid good plan for that. He is 10 and in great health.... we will go slow and steady.
In the 45 years I have had dogs.... I have seen this happen to other dogs... but never MY dogs ! I have been lucky.
Christiane ♥.•*¨`*•✿ has replied to Pam J clubI am glad to know everything about what happened to Flicka. That can be an education (teaching?) for me and I will remember it.
Have a nice Sunday overthere, my friend.
GOOD LUCK and hugs to you both.

Pam J club has replied to RHH clubPam, I am so happy that Flicka is recovering well. Like with humans, these types of things take a long time to recover from, even with surgery. I'm glad the vet was able to do something to remedy the problem. Flicka will be back on his feet and back to normal soon, yay! ;-)
Pam J club has replied to Valfal clubI have had alot of bone ops in my life and more to come... so I know what My Boy feels like. I know we can make him good again !
Pam J club has replied to tiabunna clubIts a long slow haul but we will get there.
When I worked at a vets - in a completely different life! - my Bull Terrier Bomber broke/snapped her cruciate ligament. We think she grew too fast too quickly she was big (hence the name) I was able to assist with the operation and then worked on her physio for her recovery.
Pam J club has replied to Balancing KiwiHe is doing really well. !!
We are into Week 3... he has full range of motion and now I am slowly increasing the walks. I read and read and read. Massaged him from the first day and gently PROM and icing and moist warm heat. Its paid off.. he used the leg with care from day 2.. and now we are rebuilding the muscle.
All at a slow pace... and no jumping and strictly leashed walks. He and I are sleeping on foam fold down beds on the floor.. this workroom is a "safe room" for him. I am prepared to do whatever it takes.
Pam J club has replied to Diane Putnam clubHe is doing well now !
