Burbank Greenhouse

Making a calotype of the greenhouse at Luther Burbank's house in Santa Rosa, California
Luther Burbank was the "plant wizard" of Sonoma County. This greenhouse would have been kept warm in the winter and at night with the fireplace.

Making a calotype at Carlevaro Beach.

Dragon Tooth Salt Print
| |
|
Untoned salt print from calotype.
Printed 31 October.
Stain in upper left corner appeared on the back of the paper before printing. It came through the paper and caused some fogging in the unexposed area. Possibly there was some contamination on the plastic board I sensitized the paper on.
This paper was originally prepared in June 2019 with rice starch and salt. Strathmore 500 plate finish drawing paper.

This one has some staining but I thought I'd print it anyway for the practice. I think the stains were caused by overexposure.

This beach doesn't have a name, but I call it "dragon tooth beach" because of a rock on the cliffs above it.
I haven't made calotypes in a long time!

28 Sep 2023 - 3 June 2024
Kodak type F "polycontrast" single weight RC paper, expired 1977. It curls like mad but makes interesting solargraphs if I can figure out how to keep it from rolling up! Neat reflections in this one are from its glossy surface.
