First I tried to cut these hole by hand with a carpet knife or similar. EPIC FAILURE. Then I tried a hole punch. EPIC FAILURE. Then I tried the 70€ circle cutter. EPIC FAILURE. The 2nd row has some misaligned holes. I had to cover up some bad cuts. Then I went back to the hole punch-bolt-nut contraption and combined it with using a carpet knife. It works but takes ages. At least 10 minutes per hole. I NEED A HYDRAULIC PRESS... or similar.. or or a workshop that has one... I've wasted 100€ on tools already and I can't get it done properly.

This is a mock up. The green color is fake ;-) I can only hope that the misaligned table tennis balls won't cause too much visual disturbance, once the thing is back in its old round form.

I had to make the cuts. The internal path is blocked by the 220V lines. These go through the lower of the two beams.

I didn't have suitably thick wire at hand, so I used 6 stranded wires in total.

The paper towel is used as a temporary (yet prolly permanent) insulation.

This is not the preferred mode of operation. It works best directed at a dark corner which then reflects / scatters the light into the room (assuming a white / lightly colored wallpaper).

The new RGB LED Ring v2 is powerful enough indeed. Using the Arduino 'ShiftPWM' library (slightly adjusted) gives super-smooth fading effects.

The color of the lampshade appears too red-ish. Probably caused by light scattering back from the wooden table. The flash was used as well.

This image shows the actual color of the paper. It is gray-ish.
