IKEA MODs

I like this one. Each color is individually addressable with a pair or +/- pins. No more buying the wrong kind of LED, as there simply is no common anything here.

I was trying to build a contraption that would allow me to punch circles into the white plastic foil of my Ikea SAMTID lamp. Unfortunately the wood is too soft, the punch is too dull and the plastic too tough. This was milled in 2 steps and had to flipped over.

So this is it. After I wasn't successful with the hole punch, I thought this would solve my problems for good. It cuts circles, but the forces are so big, that the centering ping moves around in the plastic foil. Therefore it cuts nice 'wanna be' circles, or egg shaped things. The edges are almost perfect though. EPIC FAILURE V2.0 I need to find a small company/workshop with some sort of hydraulic press. "punch, lift and slide" ;-)

Even a tiny mill is very useful.

The bottom half is turned off. Assuming one is lying on the couch, it would only illuminate the brain-container. The top half on the other hand perfectly illuminates a book.

The illumination looks much more pleasant to the human eye. The camera's dynamic range is too limited. 15W CFL + 7W LED full blast

The new RGB LED Ring v2 is powerful enough indeed. Using the Arduino 'ShiftPWM' library (slightly adjusted) gives super-smooth fading effects.
