70€ circle cutter
| |

So this is it. After I wasn't successful with the hole punch, I thought this would solve my problems for good.
It cuts circles, but the forces are so big, that the centering ping moves around in the plastic foil. Therefore it cuts nice 'wanna be' circles, or egg shaped things. The edges are almost perfect though.
EPIC FAILURE V2.0
I need to find a small company/workshop with some sort of hydraulic press. "punch, lift and slide" ;-)

The moon
| |
|
It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark
Under the moonlight, you see a sight that almost stops your heart
You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes
You're paralyzed
Milling wood

I was trying to build a contraption that would allow me to punch circles into the white plastic foil of my Ikea SAMTID lamp. Unfortunately the wood is too soft, the punch is too dull and the plastic too tough.
This was milled in 2 steps and had to flipped over.

The bit you see is also not long enough. I had to turn the piece over.

Epic failure.
I need something that can cut perfectly round holes that look good. Something like a compass with a cutter instead of the pencil tip.

Or a water jet, laser cutter... nobody has that in these parts.

floating voltages

This hopefully illustrates a bit where the 200Vpp were coming from, that made my fingers hurt. Only because of the bad GND connector... The symbols I've used may not be 100% correct ;-) Besides I don't care what kind of core the transformer has when I get zapped.
Tektronix 314 - floating power supply

Voltage between a USB GND line and the 'GND' of a floating power supply. There is a 10:1 probe, so the voltage is 200Vpp. It hurts to touch it.
This popped up because of a BAD RCA plug on the jyetech's probe wire while trying to measure a PWM signal on a device connected to my PC via USB. The probe never connects properly and no common ground was there. So the voltage chose my hand to equalize. Ouch. This is pretty annoying and I could have wrecked my controller with that ;-( I've cut off the RCA plug and tossed it into the trash to prevent further problems. I need a new ones, good ones, better ones.

According to a spec sheet the ID of this should be 8.0mm and then expand a bit when pushed onto the female part. The female plug should have an OD of 8.3mm.
This one has an ID of 8.58mm which makes it useless !
Please note that a new hardware version of this device has been released, therefore these images will most likely not apply to it.
