Healing Statue of Isis in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, January 2026
Title: Healing statue of Isis

Period: Probably Ptolemaic Period

Date: 332–30 BCE

Medium: Limestone

Dimensions: H. 20.3 × W. 9.1 × D. 19.3 cm (8 × 3 9/16 × 7 5/8 in.)

Credit Line: Purchase, Ernest L. Folk III Bequest, 2009

Object No.: 2009.86

The woman sits back on her heels surrounded by protective deities and symbols, including a Hathor emblem in front of her, uraei at her sides, a Bes-image face and winged scarab behind her, and a scorpion on her head. On her lap, she shelters an Osiris figure. The assortment of deities, especially the scorpion, strongly implies that the woman represents Isis, possibly merged with a scorpion deity. The combination of iconography also suggests that this statue may be an expression of the Isis and Horus the Child story.
