Object Name: Sign, Trade

Date: ca. 1880-1900

Description: Carved wooden bull's or steer's head used as a trade sign for a butcher's shop. The carving is hollow; it is painted brown with yellow and black markings. The horns are made from real horns. The head is attached to a wooden backboard with a scrolled design. Sign measures 33 inches high x 31 inches wide x 22 inches deep.

Acquisition: From the Iamonte Family
Ownership and History: This sign was used at the butcher shop of August Anselm on Broad Street in Stapleton, Staten Island, New York.
