Tree Near Cedar Hill in Central Park, Oct. 2007

Tree Near Cedar Hill in Central Park, Oct. 2007
The sweeping hillside of Cedar Hill lends its pastoral incline to many traditional Central Park activities like reading and sunbathing. A favorite area for dog owners who meet on the far northern peak of the Hill it provides a wonderful view of the lush green glade below.

True to its name the Hill is the home to many red cedars that form a line on its crest. It also supports a variety of other evergreens including the Norway spruce and pine. At its southern perimeter lies the gateway to this valley, the Glade Arch.
Supporting a wide roadway it originally provided carriage traffic with a conduit to Fifth Avenue.
