Funerary Stela of the Royal Sealer, Indi and his Wife in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, September 2008

Funerary Stela of the Royal Sealer, Indi and his Wife in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, September 2008
Stela of the Royal Sealer, Indi and his Wife, the Priestess of Hathor Mutmuti of Thinis
Dynasty 8- First Intermediate Period, ca. 2150-2010 BC
Painted limestone

Accession # 25.2.3

Architectural elements and funerary stelae from the tombs of local rulers and their followers display a great variety of skills, iconographies, and styles. The appearance of a servant holding a drink on the stela of Indi and many others of the time serve as a reminder of the period's preoccupation with finding adequate water supplies.
