Landscape Relief with Still Life in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, October 2009

Landscape Relief with Still Life in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, October 2009
Landscape Relief with Still Life
Early Roman Imperial period, first century AD
Marble

# 1979.613

A spiny lobster and a basket containing a dye murex and astragals stand in front of a shrine enclosing a tree, from which hang two plucked birds. The animals are probably offerings, and the god worshipped may have been the rustic fertility god Priapus.
