Feb 10 Shredded Wheat

The Shredded Wheat factory in Welwyn Garden City has been an iconic landmark for many years. Despite many attempts to save it, demolition is now underway and the site is destined to become a housing estate. It was a foul, wet day hence the flat light and lack of any interest in the sky. It might be, however, the last time I have a chance to photograph it.

The foul, wet day reflects the fact that an iconic landmark is being destroyed. I have no opinion on whether this destruction is a good or a bad thing, but it is always sad to see history disappear. Glad you were able to document it before it wasn't there any more. (This sentiment reminds me of the Edward Thomas poem "First Known When Lost" ... "I had never noticed it until 'twas gone.)
