Beach Life

Beach Life
Taken for World Photography Day.

Southsea beach taken from the pier. It was much quieter there than I expected, given the sunshine and warmth.

I've not taken many landscape photos recently.........mainly because I'm unable to drive. I'm just beginning to realise that most of the places I used to go to take photos are not as easy to get to by public transport. It'll take a while to adapt.

Peter Castell, trester88, Bergfex, Boarischa Krautmo and 21 other people have particularly liked this photo

I know how you feel about not being able to drive anymore but I have got a mobility scooter that will do about 28 miles on a full charge and it will even get me around cliff paths!!
A cracking shot and not too busy

Glad you like the photo James............thank you for that. Thanks also for your comments regarding not being able to drive anymore. I don't need any mobility aid (yet), but I'm definitely not as spritely as I used to be. My wife has to use a walking aid to get around, so we have to go places that suit both of us. Luckily we have our old folks bus passes and as I used to work on the railway I have a free pass for some services at the moment too.

It's a bit frustrating Güni, but I'm sure I'll get used to it soon. It feels like a loss of independence at the moment :-)

Thank you so much for these kind and encouraging words..!!

I hope you're having a lovely evening. Best wishes, Keith.

It is good to be by the seaside. I do hope it helps with the big change from driving in a car to local walking and other transport. I have to say that when the day comes for me to stop it will difficult to cope as I have avoided buses, trains, planes and taxis for more than 20 years now

Keith Burton club has replied to Colin Ashcroft club
I'm about 10 miles from this place Colin and it took nearly an hour and a half to get there by bus! :-)) Langstone Harbour which is one of my favourite places is only a couple of miles away and a short bus ride. I'll get used to it I suppose.

A fabulous photo for world photography day. The curve of the beach is very inviting!

Not being able to drive any longer is a massive change if you have been used to doing everything by car. I hope you'll soon get settled into your new routines.

I have never had a car so this has influenced my choice of where to live- good public transport and essential services within easy distance were a main factor. No big weekly/ fortnightly shop but buying fresh things several times a week....

Keith Burton club has replied to Gudrun club
Many thanks Gudrun............glad you like this one. It's a really lovely stretch of beach in the summer months.

I see not being able to drive as a loss of our independence, especially now that my wife has mobility issues and has to use a walker to get around. It will be very limiting, but we're starting to find work-arounds and I'm sure we'll get used to it.

Interesting you mentioned shopping. We walked to our Tesco store today, which took around 30 mins. After shopping we had to order a taxi to get the shopping home, which took an hour to arrive..!!

30 minutes to the supermarket is a problem indeed! Maybe you can you order staples online and have them delivered to you?

Keith Burton club has replied to Gudrun club
I'd love to order online, but my wife prefers to shop in person........and she's the boss :-))

Ah! But you made it to the beach. Delightful. A nice place to enjoy and celebrate our World Photography Day event. I like the two kids with their respective adults in the foreground. Good choice on perspective on this beach.

Have landscape photos been something you were drawn to since you first started taking photos?

It's hard to switch (it makes me think about when I switched from square format to 35mm - I didn't know what direction to take my photos anymore), but I'm sure you can handle it and also find ways to get to landscapes you enjoy.
Keith Burton club has replied to raingirl club
Thank you for your kind and generous comments Laura and I'm pleased you like this shot.

I like taking landscape photos, but in general I just photograph what I see when I'm out and about (and more recently indoors), so what you see from me is quite eclectic.

Apart from dabbling a bit with a 35mm camera and black and white film when I was younger, I didn't really start taking photography seriously until I left the Royal Navy in 1998. I realised that I didn't really have a hobby, so I bought a digital camera and that was it for me, I was hooked.
raingirl club has replied to Keith Burton club
I'm more like that also, I also "photograph what I see" when out and about.

So sounds like you jumped over the film to digital transition and went straight to digital when you really got into it. Glad you found your "it" hobby!

I think that shooting what you like personally is the best way to go about. it............of course if you shoot professionally that wouldn't always apply. Luckily, I'm just an enthusiastic amateur..!!

Thank you so much for these kind and generous comments. I'm glad you like this one.

Being unable to drive is very frustrating, but it's mainly the loss of independence that affects us. I'm sure we'll get used to it though. I'm currently trying to decipher our local train and bus timetables :-))
