I am looking at my neighbour's magnolia tree as I type this, but the flowers are not fully open yet. I love the colours and detail in this superb shot Keith and how beautiful it looks against the black. How did you do that? Or is it a trade secret ;-)

I'm pleased you like this one Rosa.............we'd gone out earlier in the day, but it started to rain, so we went home again and I decided to do some more tabletop photography.

I use a large piece of black card as a background The flower is held by a small crocodile clip just out of shot and about a foot or so in front of the card. I just use natural light from the window, but I use a tripod and generally under expose the shot to get the deep blacks. If I need to in post processing I increase the contrast and the blacks and maybe lighten the flower a bit. Nothing too difficult.

I usually take several images at different focal lengths and exposures and see which one I like best. I try to use the smallest aperture I can to ensure the flower is all in focus and the background stays out of focus.

I'm by no means an expert in post-processing but I just "play around" until I get something I like.

Good idea. I get my card background in Hobbycraft if that helps, but most craft shops will have them.
