Wreck, Dell Quay

Wreck, Dell Quay
This wreck at Dell Quay, West Sussex has been there for as long as I can remember. I have never been able to find out anything about it. Even the locals seem to know nothing if you ask them.

I've taken many photos of it over the years and it doesn't seem to be deteriorating much at all.

Dell Quay is a small hamlet situated near to Chichester, it has a nice pub, a sailing club, and small boatyard and just nine privately owned houses. Some of the houses have garages bigger than the house I live in..!!

Back in the 14th century it was the only official landing place for the Port of Chichester and as such was rated 7th in importance for the whole of England. Cargo included grain, timber and other building materials. Today it is popular destination for visitors keen to enjoy the views, walks, fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking and of course, sailing.........and the pub, of course.

LotharW, Alexander Prolygin, Berny, Amelia and 23 other people have particularly liked this photo

A very photogenic wreck Keith and beautifully captured. Is it ever completely covered by the water? Great information. I wonder if the huge garages are filled with everything but cars, like most of ours? ;-) I guess most of them will also own a boat as well though!

Thank you Rosa. Glad you like it.

I don't think it ever gets completely covered, otherwise I'm guessing it would have floated away! It's a proper mystery and very popular with photographers and painters. It looks like someone in the past has put some new wood on the hull, but there's no trace of any paint or a name.

Most houses, (the one's I could see anyway) have a boat or two in the garden and the sailing club has dozens outside. I took a photo of a couple of the houses and I'll post them in due course.

Wrecks, especially wooden hulks, are wonderfully photogenic as this magnificent capture proves Keith,
It is nicely propped and looks to have had boards replaced at some point, so I guess it is not totally unloved, it would be nice if some information could be found.

I'm surprised at the lack of information Roger........I can't find anything on line either. It's a proper mystery! It has a "Private, Keep Off" sign on it which suggests it's owned by someone!

Glad you like the shot and thanks for commenting.

Ooooh, I love this one Keith! *****

Your composition is just so elegant, the colour tones excellent, details impeccable and the cloudage just tops it all off (pardon the pun). It all fits beautifully with this time of year, in high summer I don't think atmosphere you've achieved would be possible - utter peace and tranquillity.

Sorry if Ive been over effusive ....

How strange that no-one knows the name nor the story of that wreck. There are similar wrecks on the coast near my home, but I think there is a history written about each one. I love this picture and am pleased to note that people have put wooden poles to prevent the boat from falling onto its side.

It is very strange Jenny, but I've been asking around for years and I still have no clues.

Glad you like the photo though!

A beautiful capture of this wreck, and the condition doesn't look too bad. It almost looks as if it is just waiting for someone to come along and claim and renovate her, but if she has been there that long it is doubtful. I love your composition with the wreck as the main subject but with the boat in the background and that is a very beautiful sky. Love this scene Keith

I like this kind of shot Keith. I still have quite a few like this from Panoramio to put on here perhaps. Lovely clouds, in fact a lot of this reminds me of my real watercolour attempts.

Enjoy the week. Herb

Wrecks are always photogenic, and this is no exception. Keith. have you spotted a female flower on your twisted hazel yet?
Keith Burton club has replied to Amelia club
Thanks Amelia :-)

Your comment reminded me that I was going to check up on the twisted hazel and I've literally just got back indoors from doing it. Sadly, the answer is no. There are lots of little buds on the branches, but no sign of any female flowers emerging yet.

To be honest neither the buds or catkins are looking very healthy....I suspect the recent frost has got to them. I'll check again in a few days.
