Racton Monument and Oilseed Rape (+PiP)

Racton Monument and Oilseed Rape (+PiP)
According to Wikipedia, Racton Monument (known locally as Racton Ruin or Racton Tower) is a folly situated on a hill in Racton, West Sussex, England. It was commissioned by the 2nd Earl of Halifax and built around 1766-1775, possibly as a summerhouse for the nearby Stansted Estate, though an alternative theory suggests it could have been constructed so the Earl could watch his merchant ships dock at the nearby port village of Emsworth.

It looks quite lovely from a distance, but is now derelict and seems unsafe. Last time I went there it was obviously being used by drinkers/drug takers and it smelled badly of urine and worse..!!

Try viewing large, on black. Thank you for looking.

Thanks Eunice..............the field normally has wheat-type crops in it, but every few years or so they plant the oilseed rape. I always check it out this time of year.

It's one of the "must get" shots this time of year Herb. It's good to find a field with some interest in the background.

We have a fascination with follies Keith, but what a shame it is now unsafe! The field of yellow gives superb depth to the shot, and I love your close-up in PiP.

Large works really well with this photo. Tack sharp too! I like the "smooth" clouds above the sea of yellow and the building in the distance adds plenty of interest. Very nice indeed.

Tis that time of year again. The yellow is relentless, but at least you've got a ruin in the photo to relieve the monotony. Nice one, Keith.

Indeed...........oilseed rape and bluebell photos are pretty much compulsory! The field in front of the tower has oilseed rape in it every year or so, so I always go for a look at this time of year.

Glad you like it Amelia..........and thank you.

Dans ce magnifique océan jaune voici donc un phare salvateur pour les navigateurs en difficulté.Si je comprends bien, on ne le repére pas à l'oeil mais à l'odeur. Reste à faire une prière pour que le vent souffle dans la bonne direction.
