A Deserted South Parade Pier, Southsea, Hampshire

A Deserted South Parade Pier, Southsea, Hampshire
Taken during our weekly trip to Southsea to meet a friend who is in a support "bubble" with us. We didn't stay long as it was bitterly cold.

Please view large on black. Thank you :-)

There's a closer look at the pavilion in the PiP.

I bet it was very cold but great to see the sea

Strange. It doesn't look in the least bit deserted. What caused its abandonment, Keith? Covid? Structural faults? Lack of pier-goers?

Covid-19 is the answer. With the exception of the chippy doing take-away, everything else is closed. It will probably get more walkers on it when the weather is warmer.

Loved both pictures and the details when seen at full size. What fun it would be to visit that pier in non-covid times. Such a terrible shame...

Reminds me of our visit to Santa Cruz' Beach Boardwalk some years ago on a motorcycle trip. Had some fun with night photography and getting interesting pictures in the very short time we were there...http://www.supermoto.photo/gallery-santa-cruz-beach-boardwalk/

Sorry it was bitterly cold out there, I don't doubt it! BRRRR!!!

It does look cold but lovely nonetheless. In normal times it would probably be full of people. I like the close up of the buildings in the PiP.

I love a winter walk along the beach Keith, but not this year of course! Love these pictures and can't wait to get down there sometime this year. It was just past the pier that my sister, brother and I got soaked by a freak wave! Afterwards, we were told that all the locals know about that spot, so not really a freak! It was just us that looked like freaks...but we couldn't stop laughing!!

Thanks Rosa. Lots of people get caught out by the waves.........usually caused by passing ferries and ships.......they can be quite dangerous at times.

It does look a bit chilly but refreshing and you are so lucky you can talk a walk by the sea!
We don't have "support bubbles", we are only allowed to meet one other person outside of our household- which by nearly everyone is interpreted as one person at a time;-)

Ha, ha, refreshing is one way of putting it........bloody cold would be another..!!

Our friend has learning difficulties and is finding the lockdown particularly difficult. As a family, we have arranged for someone to speak to her every day, but as we're in the only ones in a position to drive we make the effort to go and see her in person at least once a week for about an hour, just to make sure she's coping OK. We usually meet up at the boating lake in Southsea (near the pier) as she like to sit and feed the swans etc. By including her in our support bubble I think we conform to the spirit of the rules in order to safeguard her mental health and we follow all the social distancing rules etc.

I hope you have someone you can meet up with now and then :-)

It will be good when we can all get back to some sort of normality. Jackie and I have our first vaccinations on Thursday, which is a good start!

As long as the weather isn't too bad meeting people outside is always possible, as long it is only one:-)
Good for you to have your vaccinations, I hope you'll also get a second shot soon!
My 90year old mum is still waiting and for us younger ones it will be summer at the earliest... By that time I hope more mRNA vaccines will be available.

It sounds like your vaccination schedules are a bit behind ours. Vaccinations for the 65-69 age groups started here this week. I hope your Mum gets her one soon :-)

Yes, the UK is at least a month ahead, but it's much too early to judge successes. Until worldwide vaccinations are through nobody can feel safe.

I quite agree..............we need to start helping out some of the developing countries.
