At Bayeux railway station. I wonder if the gentleman learned to smoke cigarettes whilst hiding behind the bicycle sheds at school? Or was that just an English activity?

I think this remarkable footware dates from the 18th century. Perhaps they were just a decorative novelty rather than intended to be worn? Brilliance in working in wood seems to have been a feature of 18th century Normandy. I am pleased with the Pentax performance at 1600 ISO here.
