Although this pose (?) was made famous when the Marines had dealt with Iwo Jima, the statue was supposed to represent the bravery of all marines.

Appomattox Court House
I always assumed that the Lee surrender to Grant occured at the court house in Appomattox.
Sadly I was wrong. Viriginians used to call all their county seats court house, so the town was actually called Appomattox Court House because it's the Appomattox county seat and has the local courthouse there.
Technically then, I suppose that that makes this the Appomattox Court House Court House

Stone Bridge, Bull Run
The Union troops crossed this bridge at the First Battle of Bull Run. When they were repulsed and retreated over this bridge, it was supposed to be absolute chaos.
The Confederacy would later destroy the bridge. It was rebuilt after the Civil War.

To defend the Jamestown colony, the inhabitants of Jamestown needed soldiers. They would have lived in (completed) buildings that would look somewhat like this.
Jamestown Graveyard Marker
At the start of the Jamestown colony, the death rate was enormous (convicts elected to be hanged, rather than go there). When they were excavating the Jamestown site, they found a number of bodies buried in this area.
It's believed the remainder might have been washed out to see by erosion.
