I think this might be an emperor dragonfly (Anax imperator) that has recently emerged from the exuvia left on the plant stem.

I found this cast off skin (exuvia) on the stem of a plant in my pond this morning. A damselfly (or maybe a dragonfly) must have emerged during the night.

I think these are common blue damselflies (Enallagma cyathigerum) laying eggs in my garden pond.
