Port Meadow is an ancient common on the edge of Oxford, on the floodplain of the River Thames. it is a site of special scientific interest, having been grazed for centuries and never ploughed, and is rated as a Scheduled National Monument. Its beauty lies in its wide views, which have hitherto been carefully protected, but these views are now under threat from insensitive building developments.
