1971 Dodge Charger R… ^club

I never get tired of seeing these !!
They made an error in Mopar nomenclature.
Dodge and Plymouth used the same 440 HP engines, but Dodge called it Magnum and Plymouth called it Super Commando. : ]

One of my high school classmates had one ... a twin of this car. He had a real nice 1970 Pontiac Judge and totaled it. His dad found a Superbird in some guy's backyard for $800 and they restored it. Keep in mind this was about 1974 and it wasn't all that old then.

Lots of people thought that when they were new, but at over 200 mph at Daytona ... they would actually drive where the driver pointed them. So successful they were soon banned from NASCAR ... and now nearly everyone wants to own the legend.

Probably not ... I don't drink at all anymore and from what I've read in Farley Mowat's books ... Canadian beer is laced with liberal amounts of grain alcohol! :-)

March 24, 1970: Buddy Baker, driving the Chrysler Engineering #88 Dodge Charger Daytona, officially becomes the first driver in NASCAR history to break the 200 mph barrier by turning a lap of 200.447 mph (322.588 km/h). This was also a World Record at the time for any vehicle on a closed course. It was achieved using official NASCAR Scoring and Timing equipment.

Many have done it since then, but he was the first! "Never Cry Wolf" has Farley Mowat's recipe for Canadian beer! :-)
