The concrete walls of the canal are kind of tough on a wooden boat!

Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to Indycaver (Norm) club
They should put there those similar wooden poles as in Venice.

It's one long concrete pond sitting on top of sand and gravel. I suspect a pole stuck in the bottom would make her leak! :-)

Actually rather puzzling topic. I do understand the poles used in Venice are rather long, and on soft bottom, therefore bending. But still... If one looks the images how gondolas are attached in Venice, one surely starts to wonder. Don't they get scratched at all?

Yes ... I'm not sure if the rim around the edge of the gondola provides any protection, or not with the poles. The gondolas float much higher that the concrete lip around the canal though. They use to anchor them under the bridges when they weren't in use, but I think they had bird issues when they did that.

Thanks Paul! I suspect he's pondering the algae. They have to clean it out of the canal from time-to- time.
