Der Oman hat 2 Wüsten.
Während die größere der Beiden, die Rub al Khali ("Das leere Viertel") im Süden, recht bekannt ist, kennt kaum jemand die Ramlat al-Wahiba im Norden. Mit ca. 180x80 km ist sie ziemlich klein, aber voller Leben. Die Nähe des Indischen Ozeans bringt mit dem Morgentau immerhin so viel Feuchtigkeit,
daß ca. 150 einheimische Pflanzen- und 200 Tierarten dort überleben können.
Die Beduinen der angrenzenden Oasensiedlungen leben traditionell von der Aufzucht von Rennkameln, zunehmend aber vom Wüsten-Tourismus.
