just last week, during our Hamburg-stay ... we visited the Michel (a church with sightseeing platform). In elevator: some girls from Asia .... didn't understand HOW to open the door.
It was written "PUSH" ... what this poor Manga-kids will do in the future ???

I still say it is an usability issue =P If a handle design says "pull", then it is wrongly shaped handle ;-) And actually for me a red button shaped knob do say "push". Well, I suppose I have studied too much usability studies =D

It is also an cultural issue. If in some culture the doors on outside wall usually opens only to one direction (e.g. outwards), then it is almost automatic reaction to expect all doors to work similarly. For example I was very puzzled in Sweden where most of the doors opened inwards.

But as said, this is just the little researcher in me talking. Anyway, it is better to just push it, real good! =D

Yes, you are right, Sami.
When I was a student, I learned: public rooms always have to have a door opening OUTWARDS, - in case of a fire disaster - it seems logical.
