Fairy chimneys, Cappadocia (13b)

How They Formed:
Their story began millions of years ago, when volcanic eruptions blanketed the land in ash. This ash solidified into a soft rock called tuff, later covered by tougher basalt. Over centuries, wind and rain carved away the softer layers, leaving behind these striking columns protected by their basalt hats—a process still ongoing today.
