Stamps
Some of the more interesting stamps in my collection.
Elvis - Aloha From Hawaii
| |
|
|
I was watching an old videotape of a concert by Elvis - the 1973 live telecast of "Aloha From Hawaii," when for a split second during his first song of "C.C. Rider," I saw this pose that reminded me of something. Sure enough, it was the same pose the artist used to draw Elvis for the proposed stamp. This pose wasn't chosen for the actual stamp, but you can see it below on the official ballot the Post Office passed out for people to vote and chose which Elvis they wanted on the stamp.

The artist took this pose, rotated it slighty to the right and cropped it down and that was what was represented on the Elvis stamp ballot.
Pickup Truck Stamps
| |
|
These nifty-looking pickup truck stamps are just out at the post office. I bought a book of them the other day because they looked so nice. Too bad they're the stick-on kind and will not last past a year or two before the glue wears through the front of them. Stamps used to be collectible, but not anymore. I wonder why the post office would throw away such a good source of revenue as collectors?

James Dean Stamp Sheet
| |
|
|
|
When you buy a whole sheet of stamps, sometimes, you get extra things, and it doesn't cost anymore than the price of the stamps themselves.
This was a stamp dedicated to the memory of James Dean, and was released in 1996.
Do Not Bend
| |
|
Though not a real stamp, it is made like a stamp and was intended to be used on a letter.
Auto Racing - Pray For Peace
| |
|
|
Part of my stamp collection. It's one of those pre-paid postage envelopes that has been used and cancelled with "Pray For Peace."
Scooby Doo Stamp
| |
|
I picked up a sheet of these stamps today and they feature the cartoon dog sleuth, Scooby Doo. I hadn't realized they had been released.
Employ Epileptics
| |
|
|
|
Something like a stamp in my stamp collection. Ostensibly, they wanted to help epileptics with this stamp. I guess they wanted more airlines to hire more pilots with epilepsy?
Plant For A More Beautiful America
| |
|
This Beautification of America Issue stamp was issued to publicize President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “Plant For A More Beautiful America” campaign. The campaign was inspired by First Lady Lady Bird Johnson’s conservation and beautification efforts.
The stamp features an image of the Jefferson Memorial, the Tidal Basin and cherry blossoms in Washington, DC., and was issued on October 5th, 1966.
I'm doing my part around my yard - planting trees and flowers. I wouldn't planting some of those cherry trees along the front edge of my lawn. They look so pretty when they're blooming in the Spring.

Women's Suffrage
| |
|
It's only fair that women should get suffrage. Men have been suffering for centuries already.
Star Trek Stamp
| |
|
This stamp was dedicated to the television show "Star Trek." It's always been on of my favorite shows.
U.S. Air Mail
The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow
| |
|
The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow, inspired by the Washington Irving story of the same name, has always been a favorite stamp of mine in my collection.
