Elvis Ballot

Elvis Ballot
How many remember back in 1992 when the U.S. Postal Service had people vote for which Elvis stamp they preferred? It was a huge deal and they had ballots at every post office. I voted for the young Elvis, the one on top.

Karen's Place, , have particularly liked this photo

I do not remember this at all, but I was working non stop at that point in my life so I'm not surprised. Cool stamps. I would have voted for the young Elvis too.

I was just watching a retelecast of the live spectacular "Elvis - Aloha From Hawaii," which was broadcast to the world in 1973. Early on during his first song of "C.C. Rider," there was a closeup of him singing into a microphone and the angle was from his right, looking up to him. For a split second, there was a pose that looked familiar. I paused the show and came and looked at my computer and was surprised to find that it was the same pose as that above depicting the older Elvis (choice B) - he's even wearing the same outfit and rings. Now I know where the artist got his inspiration from - that live telecast. Quite fascinating!

Here's that split second scene from the live Aloha From Hawaii concert. It's a picture of my television screen:

Elvis - Aloha From Hawaii

It was rotated to the right slightly and then cropped for the stamp:

As you can see, people voted for the younger Elvis to be on the actual stamp:

Elvis! Elvis! Elvis! Elvis!
