Faded Memories

Faded Memories
For The Sunday Challenge group, who's theme this week was "Sepia."

This was my late Mother's jewellry box where she kept treasures from her past. There are some notes on the picture to detail a few selected items.

, Don Sutherland, Jan, Wierd Folkersma and 9 other people have particularly liked this photo

Great subject for sepia. I like seeing all the things in colour too.

Interesting choice having seen the original shot Kenny. I'd read that strong colours don't convert well, but I have to say this shot contradicts that! :)

There are several different routes to arrive at turning a shot into black and white. Some work well for certain types of colors, others work better for other types of colors. Since I can't see any colors, I go for what looks best to my eye.

What a lovely way to remember your Mom! My mother also had one of those kind of jewelry boxes that held more than jewelry, and I would go through it many times over the years. It is wonderful how you turned your image into a vintage photo, it fits the theme beautifully! Well done, Kenny :)

I am back... where did you get that fabulous frame?

The frame was just an old family photograph I had scanned. I cut out the original image to the edges where the white started, then placed my new one behind it and lined it up in the opening I had made through the picture. The original picture actually was from April 1956. I left the date just to give it more of a classic feel.

Well what a treasure of memories and those handwritten notes of your mom just make the items more meaningful. I hold dear the pieces of handwriting from my mother/ grandmother and late brother. Your choice of frame really does set off the sepia treatment.

A few things, like the rings in boxes and handkerchief had a small note tucked inside. The rest were all detailed on a sheet of paper that told where she got it, from whom and when or what for. Such as a necklace that had trinkets around it that she got from her Mother for an 8th grade graduation present. I'm glad she put the notes in the box.
