In my suburb there were two public telephones here back in 2004. There has been only one for some years now. These days one can call any Australian number for free from a public phone. The remaining phone at this location can be called on +61 7 4635 5219 ;-) Another change since this photo is that the house across the road has been demolished and replaced with a preschool. June 2004.

Many public phones have disappeared and many cabinets have been reduced to a partial shelter. Also with the free call to Australia the few privately owned PTs have all ceased to work or disappeared. I have photos of a business-owned phone at the TAFE I worked at to put up here one day. I found the number of this one by calling my mobile from it.

Phones were a part of my working life though mainly in the building of the transmission network. There are many many photos I wish I had taken decades ago...
