6002 standing on a coal train in Broadmeadow from Newstan mine at Fassifern. The lead loco has been removed for the final run to the port. Sometime in 1971.

What weight were these coal trains?

The weight of these was about 1200 tons. This is a similar train to the other you commented on with the two garrats. The removed loco was also a garrat. They originated at a mine which involved a standing start at the bottom of a mile of 1/40 grade from the mine branch junction. I haven't yet scanned my slides of this but a web search garrat images fassifern bank will get some photos.
