With a street that steep those fences are a must! (even without the snow!). HFF, John!

Wonderful angle. It turns yet another snow shot into an abstract - and why do I keep feeling like I'm slipping off my computer chair?

Thanks, Jaap. I am a member of the group but it won't let me upload when it's convenient for me. As Sarah notes under her latest fence photo, the restrictions on posting, although I understand the reason for them, are often inconvenient for us in the western hemisphere. If I have to wait till Friday morning to post, then it's already Saturday in New Zealand, which seems to defeat the purpose of posting on Friday. I propose allowing posts during the 24 hours that it's Friday somewhere.

But I'm sure this can be worked out. All the best for the weekend.

P. S. If you have already read my earlier post, I changed it later after reading Sarah's below. I thought I had left the group, but in fact I'm still a member. It just won't let me post when I try to.

Actually, when the group didn't appear in my list when I tried to post I may have assumed it was defunct.

A great shot and the tilt works so well with these ornamental "fences" (I'm thinking: graveyard.)
I know you feel your snow tilts towards blue, on my monitor, this snow tilts towards yellow, perhaps intentional?
I've decided to leave the HFF group (see my comment on my last fence) but of course, will stay in touch with your fine work, always.

John FitzGerald club has replied to Sarah P.
Thank you very much, Sarah. I thought I had left the group (and told Jaap that above), but I, too, am still in the group but not allowed to post when I want to. I guess I thought the group had packed up. So thanks for getting me not to tell lies to Jaap.

Yes, maybe I should calibrate my monitor colour. The photos have always printed correctly so I have assumed the monitor colours were all right.

Everybody's snow tilts toward blue when the sun's out. The camera is more sensitive to blue than the eye is, so it often captures the reflection of the sky off the snow. I think I "corrected" this one by switching to shade white balance, which may account for the yellow. You can get the same problem by adding red and green, which is what I think shade white balance may amount to. Red + green = yellow. Maybe I should stop adding the green. I'll look into this, though.

Thanks, Sami. You've also made me think of something I hadn't realized was bothering me since I moved here -- there's nothing strange in town. Until I found this, of course.

Then take it as a challenge, and try to shoot ordinary in a way that turns it into extraordinary =)

Turning images sideways or upside down can be enough:

Another funny thing, Sonia, is that I still haven't got round to checking it out now the snow has gone. And it's across the street.
