A vivid dream - not sure whether a pleasant one or an exhausting, got to get somewhere but don't know how to one.

I hadn't thought of that aspect, Bob. Thanks. I do have dreams in highly saturated colours that are always pleasant. Maybe that's why this treatment appealed to me.

I used to have hag dreams -- in which you're unable to move while someone sinister is prowling around, but haven't had one in years. I just touched wood, because they are horrifying.

It brings to mind Dutt’s own creations. The acid colours always seem disturbing, out at the edge of photography. The figure seems to be walking with trepidation.

Thanks, Steve. I thought about taming the colours a bit, but went for the striking effect (an arousal boost, as I learned to call it in a course I took from D. E. Berlyne). I did consider going wilder but thought it wise to hold back.

Arousal boost. I won’t forget that.

One of the foundations of psychobiological aesthetics. When I took the course (1971) Berlyne, then one of the most prominent experimental psychologists in the world, was about to publish his book on it. I was either too lazy or too dim to manage all the reading he assigned, so mainly all I got out of the course was an understanding of the arousal boost and arousal jag, and of their offspring the arousal boost-jag. I think I got a C- in the course, which I considered generous.

However, my vague memories of my undoubtedly imperfect understanding of these ideas are coming to dominate my photographs.
