Spiegelungen: mein heutiges Tagesbild und mein diesjähriger Beitrag zum Weltfotografietag. Dieses Jahr hatte ich schon gleich früh am Morgen ein Mondbild versucht, dann etwas später den Sonnenaufgang und bin in der Mittagsstunde noch durch die Strassen in meinem Büroviertel gezogen. Ausgewählt habe ich dieses Bild, das direkt gegenüber meinem Bürogebäude entstand. Die Spiegelungen an der Fassade haben mich schon öfters gereizt, aber entweder hatte ich die Kamera nicht dabei, oder das Motiv gelang mir nicht so wie ich mir das vorstellte. Heute bin ich jedoch zufrieden mit den Wiederholungen in der Spiegelung, und somit ist dies nun meine Wahl zum heutigen Tag.

On World Photography Day, I went out after dinner to visit a once-iconic structure that housed a popular coffee shop that I’ve photographed before, because the site has been lifeless and left to decay for well over a decade after years of vacancy. A couple of recent fires prompted our city to order a controlled collapse of the building. There’s not much left, except the graffiti covered remains. Tonight, the space is being ‘reclaimed’ by nature, and I admire nature’s tenacity amidst a city backdrop.

I often like to abstract reality in my photographs. But light is the main thing that I look for. Being under the weather today I struggled for inspiration. As the gray morning led to mottled light in the afternoon, a bit of defined shape thrown into my image appealed to me. I had intended to take a variation of a self portrait for the special day, but instead I was just a low energy reflection of myself and so picked the flower photo for my main submission.
