Wasserkunst Thumkuhlental - Feldgestänge (HFF)

Die Wasserkunst Thumkuhlental diente der nahen Grube „Aufgeklärtes Glück“ als Pumpe zum Entwässern. Sicker- und Grundwasser wurde also mit der Kraft des Wassers gehoben. Dadurch wurden die Stollen entwässert und der Abbau von Erz überhaupt erst möglich. Die Außenanlagen sowie das nahe Mundloch des Stollens liegen direkt am Lehrpfad. Schautafeln geben Auskunft über den damaligen Bergbau.

Die Grube wurde früher auch als „Dumme Kuhle“ geführt. Hiermit war eine nicht ergiebige Kuhle oder eben Grube gemeint. Daher der Name Thumkuhlental. Erstmals erwähnt wurde die Grube als „Dhumkuhlenbergk na den Huppeln“. Und zwar in einer Urkunde des 1429 verstorbenen Grafen Heinrich von Wernigerode. Die Grafen besaßen bereits seit 1343 Tal und Grube als Lehen.

Später gab es weitere Teilhaber. Die Grafen jedenfalls waren entsprechend am Ertrag der Grube beteiligt. Ebenso wie an deren Verlust. Die Grube „Aufgeklärtes Glück“ wurde aber erst 1786 eröffnet. Zum Sommer 1795 folgte fast schon wieder das Aus. Starker Regen führte zu Überschwemmungen. Der Wassergraben wurde von Steinen und Schlamm verschüttet. Die Holzwehr und die Radstube zerstört. Außerdem änderte der Bach seinen Lauf. Sogar der oberste Stollen wurde geflutet. Die Zeche war somit „abgesoffen“.

Die Wasserkunst wurde nach der Überschwemmung 1795 übrigens nicht wieder aufgebaut. Erst Ende der 1990er wurde die Anlage durch die ABM rekonstruiert. Natürlich nach historischen Vorgaben. Die Wasserkunst besteht aus Wasserrad (Kunstrad), Feld- und Hubgestänge sowie Pumpenturm. Das Kunstrad misst vier Meter. Mittels „oberschlächtig“ zugeführten Wasser erfolgen pro Minute sechs bis 14 Umdrehungen. Über krumme Zapfen und Pleuelstange wird wiederum die Stangenkunst betrieben. Diese überträgt die Kraft per Hin- und Herschwingen auf das Kunstkreuz im Schachtgerüst. Hier wird die Kraft schließlich in eine Hubbewegung gewandelt. Tatsächlich pumpt die Technik nach wie vor Wasser aus der Grube.
