History Recorded: Debenhams a High Street name I have known since I was a boy in the 1950s. Just a few weeks from now the name will be gone from our high streets forever.

RE-POSTED: The shutters have come down for the last time at all Debenhams stores. 240 years of high street history came to an end.

Debenhams has already gone from Portsmouth Maurice............it was in trouble before the pandemic, but it was the first lockdown that finished it off. I feel sorry for all those who are losing their jobs!

A cracking photo though............I love the shop's facade, even though it's looking a bit tatty!

There are some good and revolutionary ideas going about to breath life back into these places David, Can't remember where but a Closed Debenhams Dept store is currently being converted to Go-cart track on one floor, restaurant and gym on the middle floor and a department store on ground floor and basement.

Sadly Sarah, Debenhams was one of the UK's top High Street brand names, when I was a kid being able to afford to shop in Debenhams was a privilege. On line shopping started the rot and the Pandemic with lockdown finished it off. It has followed other big name brands and I am sure others will follow too.
