Since I'm not currently able to travel, at least I can post some previously not posted photos that fit my yearn for the open road!
This is from along Jungo road, a graded gravel road that runs west from Winnemucca towards Gerlach, Nevada. Looking east from a point where Jungo road crosses the UP tracks on the west end of a large playa. From what I could tell, this seemed to be close to a site that was the former location of the town of Jungo.

It took me many years to learn to appreciate the subtle beauty in this very dry landscape. Now that I'm accustomed to the shades of the west, the dense greenness of the eastern U.S.now often feels a little too much "in your face".

I had been on the Jungo road for about an hour and, despite that fact that it is parallel to UP tracks, I had not seen or heard a train for the entire time. Soon, though, four trains came through relatively close to each other.

In a stretch that was many miles from any structures, I came across the surprising pack of dogs. There was no sign of habitation nearby that would indicate why they were there, but they seemed to be too groomed to be simply abandoned. On the other hand, some were sleeping around the cow carcass, and when I stopped to take pictures they came at the car very aggressively.

Just pass the Hycroft mines, the road gets much rougher and narrower, leading to the Black Rock playa that is the location of Burning Man. I had been warned that the road that continued from this point was very hard on tires and since my tires were getting somewhat worn, I decided not to go any further.
Update, 2/2/2016: I should have pointed out when I posted this that this route to Burning Man ( burningman.org )was strongly discouraged by the organizers of Burning Man and that this sign is in no way an official designation by the organizers of it.
