Columbia Gorge -- Portland Womens Forum viewpoint (#0213)
Taken from the Portland Women's Forum viewpoint in the Columbia Gorge. The viewpoint is on property that was once the Chanticleer Inn and was turned over to the state in 1963 to create a memorial for the Portland Women’s Forum. Going east from Portland on the historic Columbia Gorge highway (US 30), this is the first point in the Columbia Gorge with a sweeping view of the river and Gorge, plus the Vista House in the distance. Apparently the reason for giving the location to the Women’s Forum is because the forum of women’s organizations was the key organization for preserving the highway and sites.
