This is a pretty scene.

A TV show appeared on the local market a few years ago that started out as a local access show in California. It's a kind of outdoor travel show featuring a guy who takes camping trips to various national parks, state parks, and similar destinations. He did a show on Carrizo Plain that made the place look stunning. It's on my list of someday destinations.

The vistas are often stunning due to the isolation. When you come, plan on NOT being there in the middle of the day unless you're looking to capture a grey and seemingly characterless vastness.

Interesting looking landscape. While I love our National Parks and Monuments, I'm not a fan of this new idea of letting some of them be run by other government agencies, such as the BLM and NFS. In my mind, National Monuments need to be cared for by the National Park Service.

Interesting piece in Wikipedia (link below) about the relationship between National Monuments and the NPS. It seems that the declaration of National Monuments is still used when Congress is unwilling to move on making things as National Parks. I'm fairly certain that was the case about Manzanar.
