Nevada Test Site (2856)

Nevada Test Site (2856)
The town in the background is Mercury, an off limit location where many of the workers in the original nuclear testing lived in the 1940's.

My dad commuted out there for many years. There are now tours of the NTS twice a year, and you have to sign up way in advance. I've never managed to schedule one, tho--

Oh, and just a quibble I noted--the NTS dates to the early 50s, when it was decided that a permanent test range closer than the south Pacific was needed. It was a military reservation then, but it was all Army (the Air Force still not being a separate service). Camp Desert Rock, a WW II installation, was somewhere around the flat behind the sign.

The sign actually mentions the on-continent shift, but nothing about Camp Desert Rock.

Well, turns out I misremembered: Camp Desert Rock was concurrent with the nuclear tests:

I coulda sworn that Camp Desert Rock had a historical marker all its own, but it's not shown on the Nevada map.
It was the Bombing & Gunnery Range itself, which includes the Test Site, that was withdrawn in WWII:

The fading neurons, again...sorry about that!

Not what I'd call fading neurons, more like an active brain with too many information points to keep in order...
