Ruby Mountains, Lamoille Canyon, Island Lake Trail 0661a
The beginning section of the Island Lake Trail in Lamoille Canyon. All descriptions of the trail describe it as moderate, which seemed to be underassessment to me. It's a climb of more than 1000 feet in 2.5 miles, starting at an elevation of over 8000 feet. The first mile of the trail is also a relatively straight path across the side of the mountain with no shade. Despite that, it is well worth the effort.

The road in the picture is Lamoille Canyon Road.

I was carrying our son in a baby pack on my back when he was ~1 yr old on this trail, when we got caught in a thunderstorm! And the pack frame was aluminum--

If my memory is correct, there was some threat of thunderstorms even when I did it (there's the shadow of a cloud in the lower right).
