White Oaks, NM 3258a
White Oaks, a former mining town just a few miles north of Carrizozo. The history of White Oaks is very closely tied to Carrizozo. Due to decisions about the route of the railroad and other factors, White Oaks started losing population to Carrizozo very early in the 1900's. When I had visited the town about nine years ago, I remember there being more small businesses open and it having a relatively active art colony. On my last visit, there was only one small store/museum and I didn't see as much evidence of artists living/working there.
