Children -- and grownups, too -- turned out on a hot and sunny September day to see who was best at riding a skateboard around a kind of empty swimming pool place created for the purpose. All, amazingly, survived.

Waiting to compete

At the microphone is Tracy Kitts, a nonprofit organization executive, who organized the event and did most of the work involved. I believe he was, too, instrumental in getting the skateboard park built.
