Robinson Kimbolton

Tuesday 23 March 1993 – Robinson’s Coaches of Kimbolton KEW 785P picking up school children west of the village of Tilbrook, Cambridgeshire close to the boundary with Northamptonshire on what was then the A45 main road. When the cross country A14 dual carriageway was constructed this road between St. Neots and Higham Ferrers was downgraded as the B645. Little did I know when I took this photograph (from the back seat of a car travelling in the opposite direction) that some 20 or so years later that my wife and I would travel this route every week to visit our daughter and family. We much preferred this route rather than the A14 as it was quieter and far more relaxed only taking about 15 minutes more travelling. KEW 785P was a Plaxton Panorama Elite bodied Bedford YRT new in September 1975.

Monday 4 March 2013 (1607) - The garage premises of Robinson’s of Kimbolton. In 1927 Stanley Robinson started a car and cycle repair business in Kimbolton and was operating a coach and taxi prior to 1939. In this now changed view the company once ran a filling station in addition to carrying out car servicing and MOT testing together with a convenience store. The filling station has now gone and the convenience store (then named the ‘Roboshop’) upgraded to a Budgens mini-store. One of their very smartly presented coaches K579 JNV, a Van Hool Alizée bodied Volvo B10M which was new to Richmond’s of Barley, is seen on the forecourt.

Monday 4 March 2013 (1613) - Robinson’s of Kimbolton B14 SBR, a Van Hool Alizée bodied Volvo B10M, turning into the grounds of the famous Kimbolton School having just travelled from the company garage a short distance away. The building in the background was built in the 1760s. Henry VIII's first wife, Katherine of Aragon, died at the Castle in 1536 around the time the school was founded albeit in a different part of the village. (I have seen mentioned somewhere that that this coach was once registered K575 JNV).

(I have seen reference on the Internet that this coach had previously carried registration numbers P220 YGG and KSK 979 alluding to the possibility it was new to Park's of Hamilton in March 1997).

Thursday 19 December 2013 (1146) - Robinsons of Kimbolton W87 BAV seen in High Street, St Neots. It was the second of three coaches passing through on a charter. The third coach in the trio can be seen behind. Both are Van Hools from this always immaculately presented fleet.

Thursday 18 September 2014 (1012) - Robinson Kimbolton W87 BAV, a Van Hool Alizee bodied Volvo B10M tri-axle, seen at the Kimbolton premises. New in March 2000 to Kenzies Coaches of Shepreth.

Showbus, Sunday 21 September 2014 - Robinson Kimbolton YT13 YUN, an Irizar PB bodied Scania K360 new in May 2013. First registered by Scania UK perhaps as a demonstrator or maybe for stock. Robinson is one of my favourite operators and I had tried on a number of occasions to photograph this coach as I regularly passed through Kimbolton but it was always out on the road - just as it should be I suppose!
