Friday 8 September 2023 (1255) – Arriva 3799 (FL63 DXE), a Wright Pulsar 2 bodied VDL SB200 new in December 2013, on the approach to Welwyn Garden City bus station when working service 724 from Harlow to Heathrow Airport.

Friday 8 September 2023 (1113) – Arriva 3652 (LK14 FTA), a Wright StreetLite DF new in July 2014, seen in St. Peter’s Street, St. Albans when working service 321 from Luton to Rickmansworth.

Friday 8 September 2023 (1029) – St. Peter’s Street, St. Albans On the left is Red Eagle Buses Limited 33 (YY15 GDK) on which I had just travelled from Marshalswick as it worked the 1000 trip of St. Albans town service S6. It is an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro200D new to Central Taxis, Felling in May 2015. Standing in front of that is Sullivan Buses E59 (LK08 DXW) taking a break between trips on service 84 which runs to Potters Bar. It is an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro400 bodied Trident that had been new to Metroline (TE884) in July 2008. On the right is Arriva 3940 (LT63 UNP), a Wright Eclipse Urban 2 bodied Volvo B7RLE new in October 2013, working the 0845 service 321 from Maple Cross to Luton.

Friday 8 September 2023 (1149) – Red Rose Travel 50562 (Y26 RRT), an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro200D that had been new to First Capital (DMV44228) in April 2012 registered YX12 AEP. It was working the 1048 service 357 from Harpenden to Elstree & Borehamwood Station. Across the street the driver of Arriva 3566 (KX09 GYT) was dealing with paperwork after a young chap on a motor scooter hit the bus further down the street.

Friday 8 September 2023 (1114) – Red Rose Travel 50552 (Y29 RRT), seen in Victoria Street, St. Albans working 0958 service 357 from Borehamwood to Harpenden. It is an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro200D that had been new to First Capital (DMV44251) in March 2012 registered YX12 AKU.

Friday 8 September 2023 (1115) – Red Rose Travel 50552 (Y29 RRT), seen in Victoria Street, St. Albans working 0958 service 357 from Borehamwood to Harpenden. It is an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro200D that had been new to First Capital (DMV44251) in March 2012 registered YX12 AKU. Red Rose Travel and Red Eagle Buses appear to share the same management and operating centre. The two businesses have their own quite distinctive and quite different livery styles. Both however do feature these same characters on the roofline. In my ignorance I cannot say what the characters say and would welcome help on that point.

However, the couple sitting on the opposite side of the street were not the missing pair. YD19 HGM is a Yutong T122HDH new in June 2019. REL Capital now owns a number of different coach businesses including Davian ((North London), Reg’s Coaches of Welwyn, South Mimms Travel, Redwing (London) and John James Travel (Romford).

Reg’s Coaches was acquired by REL Capital in May 2023. Friday 8 September 2023 (1019) – Red Eagle Buses Limited 33 (YY15 GDK) seen on The Ridgeway, Marshalswick when working the 1000 trip of St. Albans town service S6. I travelled on this bus to St. Peter’s Street. It is an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro200D new to Central Taxis, Felling in May 2015. In the late 1990s my younger daughter Jane attended the University of Hertfordshire and, together with a number of other students, rented one of the apartments in the background.
